Renault 8 Gordini Concept: A Rear-Wheel-Drive Icon Enters the Electric Era Renault has updated its classic past, transforming the legendary Renault 8 Gordini into a new, all-electric concept car. With a low, wide stance and modern technology, this vehicle is a very important part of Renault’s future heritage plans ahead of the opening of the Renault Collections museum in Flins.
The two-seater electric coupé is designed with a "café racer" philosophy by stripping out the unnecessary to highlight raw beauty. The new version features a length of 4.12 meters, a width of 1.88 meters, and a height of 1.27 meters, sitting squarely on the road with 19-inch wheels at the front and larger 20-inch wheels at the rear to visually emphasize its rear-wheel-drive layout.
The front end reinterprets the original's multi-lamp setup with six round 3D headlamps set right into the bodywork, alongside a bevelled prow with no grille. Additionally, the bonnet has no shut line and can be removed in a single piece just like a racing car, while the signature double white stripe acts as a structural component guiding the design.
This car is part of Renault’s big plan to keep its history alive, selected from over 300 sketches submitted during an in-house design competition by Renault designers. The exterior is finished in a modern three-layer interpretation of the classic Bleu de France color, combining mother-of-pearl with a blue-tinted binder.
Inside, Renault built a minimalist, driver-focused interior using brushed aluminium and Alcantara® instead of plastic. Traditional dials are reinterpreted into a sleek row of digital round screens mounted horizontally on a brushed aluminium panel. The bucket seats feature blue corduroy centers as a nod to the original seats, and the top-stitching on the door panels brings to mind the kerbs of a racetrack.
Powered by a 270 hp rear-mounted electric motor, the new Renault 8 Gordini Concept is unveiled on 24 September at the Renault Carwalk, followed by a display on the Renault stand at the Paris Motor Show from 12 to 18 October 2026.
